Education

Benard holds a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Commerce both from the University of Nairobi.

He has also acquired various specialized certifications including;

  • Advanced Project Management (Strathmore University),
  • Sustainable Finance (University of Cambridge),
  • Integrated Reporting Practitioner (IIRC), and
  • Executive certification in Advancing Sustainable Business from New York University.

FCPA Benard Amukah a visionary leader, practicing member – P/2853 of the Institute and Partner at KPMG East Africa where he is currently the business consulting services leader, responsible for strategy, operations and customer excellence, finance and accounting advisory, sourcing and procurement, and People and Change consultancy services.

Additionally, Benard provides services to Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Burundi, Somalia, Ethiopia as well as Eritrea. With exceptional skills in transforming complex financial landscapes, he has worked with industry giants across the region.

Bernard brings over two decades of expertise in Auditing, Forensic Accounting and Investigation, financial advisory, governance, risk, compliance, and sustainability.

Renowned for his ability to navigate complex financial landscapes, he has led transformative projects in Audit, IFRS implementation, ESG advisory, and business process reengineering for leading organizations in financial services, telecommunications, and manufacturing across multiple African markets.

As the Advisory Leader for KPMG Ethiopia, he has driven IFRS transitions and sustainability reporting, fostering compliance and operational efficiency. His passion for mentorship has seen him nurture over 150 professionals, reinforcing his commitment to excellence in the accounting profession.

Beyond his corporate influence, Bernard has demonstrated impactful leadership in community service including: Education, being BOM Chairman – Kanyamfwa Secondary School – 2010-2015, served as Nairobi Station -Treasurer – over 300 Seventh Day Adventist churches, and in other roles (Elder, men leader, youth leader, stewardship, development and investment leader) and professional development, shaping policies and fostering growth.

A Fellow of ICPAK, he is dedicated to driving sustainable growth, resilience, and finance transformation in the accounting profession.

Suitability for Council Election

As a Member of The Practitioners Development Committee for six years
  • Benard was instrumental in the rollout of Audit Software for the Institute and the convenor for the work stream that oversaw the development of the software to its rollout stage, and;
  • Has played a key role in leading tough conversation in coming up with the minimum fee guidelines and accountant remuneration guideline.
  • Spearheaded the TAPEF programme for trainee accountants.
  • Served as a member in the taskforce that came up with the Firm management handbook for young practitioners.
  • Instrumental in the review of the audit quality procedures for practitioners and recommended changes to the signing mandate of accounts – a proposal that was reviewed and adopted by the professional standards committee of the institute.
  • Instrumental in the development of the Nairobi Stock Exchange ESG disclosure guideline and the Enterprise Risk management guideline that was issued by PSAB.
  • Benard is a certified trainer with ICAW, KPMG Africa Facilitators Programme, and has been a trainer in the Institute’s Annual Practitioners forums.
Recognition
  • Following his immense contribution to the profession, Benard was recognized by ICPAK through a commendation award in 2018 and Fellowship in December 2022.

  • Benard is a certified trainer with ICAW, KPMG Africa Facilitators Programme, and he has been a trainer in the Institute’s Annual Practitioners forums.
Service
  • Benard has served as the Board Chairman at City Sacco Ltd for 10 years and Chairperson of the Steering Committee of Global People Survey implementation Action Plan in KPMG East Africa.
  • He is a representative of the KPMG Advisory performance management Committee across the East African region.
  • Benard has presented and interacted with many boards across sectors in East Africa in his day-to-day roles at KPMG.
  • He is exposed to global leadership through his Interaction with KPMG Member firms across the globe, all African countries, UK, Canada, Netherlands.
