As a seasoned leader with over two decades of expertise in financial advisory, governance and sustainability, including leading strategic initiatives, I am confident that I will be an invaluable asset to the profession with the milestones achieved in driving resilience amid an agile environment.
My inspiration for being elected as a council member at the institute is premised on considerations such as the exponential membership growth, diverse members’ interests, sustainability of the institute as well as its strategic plan. These considerations call for leading the institute to posterity by positioning it as a dynamic, forward-looking and solid regulator of the accountancy profession and hence my desire to be part of that change-making.
My agenda focuses on five(5) main pillars such as Governance, Regulatory, Inclusivity, Sustainability and Collaboration.

The REFRESH Agenda

Excellence In Serving Members

The FIVE (5) Pillars

PILLAR 01 - Strengthening Governance and Ethical Leadership
PILLAR 02 - Enhancing Regulatory and Compliance Frameworks
PILLAR 03 - Promoting Inclusivity and Member Empowerment
PILLAR 04 - Driving Sustainability and Innovation in the accountancy profession
PILLAR 05 - Fostering collaboration and strategic partnerships

REFLECT ON OUR JOURNEY

Past leadership actions and decisions, both successes and failures, provide valuable lessons and context that can inform future strategies and decision-making, shaping an ICPAK’s trajectory. I believe that the council’s leadership can use ICPAK’s history to explain how the institute needs to change and why actions are necessary to adapt to a new way of doing things.

As a council member, I will;

  • Champion for strengthening the role of ICPAK in developing and regulating the accounting profession through acts and amendments. My particular areas of interest will be mentorship, corruption, remuneration, compliance, practice issues-quacks, Counties and Non-Governmental Organisation’s reporting issues, and the accrual journey.
  • Advocate for a shift to an Attractive, Relevant and Agile ICPAK.
  • Use my first-hand knowledge of the 3 key challenges in the profession (attraction, relevance, and change) to help review and shape policy that will help transform and position ICPAK as a powerful brand going into the future.
  • Map out the trends disrupting the accounting profession such as Geopolitical unrest and Disruption in the Global Economy; Trust and The Role of Ethics; Sustainability and Sustainable Value Creation; Technology and Artificial Intelligence; Attraction, Development and Retention of Talent; Regulatory Scrutiny and Public Perception of Audit and Assurance to help build the institute’s sustainability and build member confidence.

EXCELLENCE IN SERVING MEMBERS

To achieve excellence in serving our members, ICPAK must focus on enhancing relevance, reputation, and value.

As a council member, together with council colleagues, I will aim to enhance member experience through ongoing training, guidance, and technology, while advocating for practice rights and promoting ethical standards.

My focus will be on;

  • Strengthening KASNEB to facilitate the production of market-ready accountants.
  • Promoting a strongly empowered Secretariat team with full support from the council.
  • Using quality trainers aligned to membership journeys, sectors and industries.
  • Promoting Professional Development through affordable and value-adding CPD programmes. I intend to achieve this through benchmarking our trainings, use of technology, and pricing with other professional bodies.
  • Championing engagement of quality trainers aligned to membership journeys, sectors, and industries.

FOCUS ON ICPAK’S MANDATE

A mandate “translates” values into achievable goals. It articulates in broad terms an organization’s real-world purpose within the framework established by core values.

As a council member, I will;

  • Inject fresh impetus into ICPAK’s strategic focus areas (spelt out in the ICPAK’s 2025-2029 strategic plan).
  • Strengthen the process for issuing licenses and certifications.
  • Monitor implementation of accounting standards.
  • Institute regular review and assessment for the effectiveness and implementation of various MOUs signed by various stakeholders.

RELIABLY REGULATING THE PROFESSION

How Can the Accountancy Profession Restore Trust? Finance is arguably one of the most important aspects of a business, but building public trust is based on transparency, legitimacy, and rigorous codes of conduct and ethics.

As a Council Member, I will;

  • Push for approval and release of the remuneration order for the accountancy profession.
  • Institute a framework for every accountant to be confirming annual compliance with the institute’s code of ethics.
  • Positioning ICPAK to be a key advisor to the CS-National Treasury on matters relating to financial accountability.
  • Supporting accountants to demonstrate and maintain competence in the accountancy profession in line with IFRS.
  • Mopping out quacks by collaborating with KRA to ensure that only registered accountants can file tax returns, whether monthly, quarterly, or annually.

ENGAGEMENT WITH KEY STAKEHOLDERS

The main idea behind stakeholder engagement is to share information, gain insights, and increase support — leading to better decisions and better project outcomes that benefit organizations and their stakeholders. An organization’s culture and capabilities, development, and interactions with external forces shape the choices leaders make and influence how people think about the future.

As a council member, I will;

  1. Push for key stakeholder mapping and relationship management to reinforce the ICPAK mandate as follows:

The Government

  • Position ICPAK as the advisor to the National Treasury on finance and accountability matters such as; in the debt management through enhancing the capacity of the Asset Liability Management Authority.
  • Support the transitioning from cash to IPSAS Accrual within the transition period.
  • Champion for qualified accountants to lead accounting, finance and related functions in both National and County governments, MDAS-Universities, TVETS, Secondary schools etc. to facilitate quality reporting.
  • Ensure ICPAK plays a strategic role in the budget & policy statement formulation.

KRA

  • Establish a meaningful relationship with KRA to position ICPAK members as key stakeholders in tax administration; only ICPAK members file tax returns with KRA.

2. Collaborate with other stakeholders: CBK, CMA, NSE, IRA, SASRA, and CAK for the stability of a financial system and implementation of IFRS affecting specific sectors.

SUSTAINABILITY OF ACCOUNTANCY PROFESSION

Looking at sustainability from a member-driven organisation point of view, it means delivering benefits and value to the members continuously. This requires long term planning to improve institutional capacity.

As a Council Member, I will aim to;

  • Champion the establishment and implementation of ICPAK Foundation to manage all ICPAK impact activities, such as CSR, student sponsorships, and mentoring programmes.
  • Integrate sustainability in all the institute’s core activities. This includes membership growth programs, brand strengthening, and value to members that increases social impact.
  • Lead collaboration with development partners, practitioners, and employers to facilitate placement of qualifying accountants.
  • Attract and retain the next generation of accountants through the established ICPAK foundation.
  • Establish global mobility programme for ICPAK members.

HOME FOR ALL MEMBERS

Accountants are at different phases of their journey, and no size fits all.

As a council member, I will aim to;

  • Influence for CPD programme to fit the different phases of a member’s career journey.
  • Utilize the College of Fellows and senior members of the profession to offer training and mentorship to young accountants.
  • Creating a programme for retirees to continue contributing to the profession.
  • Champion for the inclusion, diversity, and equality (IDE) among members.
